In our latest interview, written by the lovely Tara we had the pleasure of speaking with Daisy on specific subjects linked to activism. Question One: Hi Daisy! As a young activist, what do you think are the biggest challenges you face from time to time?
I think the biggest challenges that I've faced from time to time is that I can't reach as many people so some people haven't had the opportunity to know what is happening in the world. Question Two: What’s the most rewarding thing about advocating for the social justice issues that are important to you? The thing that I find most rewarding about supporting the social justice issues are that, i get to teach uneducated people who don't know about the issues and make them realize that there are more issues in this world than they think. Question Three: The younger generation seems to be educating their parents on social justice and climate matters. Is this applicable in your situation, and why is this happening? In my situation, I am educating my parents on it and I think the reason why it's happening is that they didn't get the same education or platform we have to actually see what is happening in the world or they just choice to ignore it Question Four: It’s never too early to start being involved in politics, or to advocate for the issues that are impacting different communities. Why is this true, and how would you convince someone of this who doesn’t initially agree? I think the statement is true because I think if you start learning about it at a young age you will be able to learn more about it and be more educated then most adults. Question Five: Does your school fairly represent and listen to minorities who report hurtful or unideal experiences? Describe the process that administrators take after discriminatory altercations. I think my school does pay for attention to minorities, but don't pay enough attention and should show more interest in the minorities in our school Question Six: Could you inform us of what ‘performative activism’ is? Why is it harmful and ignorant? Performative activism the simplest way I can put it is, taking part of a movement, like the blacklivesmatter movement and only doing it because it is "trending" or because everyone else you know is doing it. This is very harmful and ignorant because some people might see it and follow what you are doing but have no idea what the movement is about, it is harmful because people don't get the education they need from the activism that is happening, and can say misinformation that is either not true or not enough for the other person who is trying to understand what the activism is about.
